Enough

(image above: Local flora, some may see them as weeds, but for a sweet little girl who has grown up in Asia they are all beautiful)

It’s totally ok if you don’t prefer it or like it, however our family has really enjoyed The Chosen.

Included were two scenes that were impactful for me as a present day Christian experiencing a glimpse of Jewish life and a familiar prayer, the Dayenu.  This act of worship declares aloud many of the ways God displayed his authority and love for his own, and which even if they had stood alone “would have been enough”.

As an act of worship and a reflection on Christ’s sacrifice for me, his triumphant defeat of death, and the gift he has given our family of remission for Chris, I wrote my own Dayenu.

Yes, you read that, all of Chris’s tests confirmed he is in complete remission! We are extremely grateful to the Lord!  Chris continues to regain his strength and has had no side effects of Car-T.  The medical team kindly waived the need to refrain from driving for another month as long as he remains symptom free.  They assured us if he had symptoms they would gradually appear and we would have adequate notice to discontinue driving.  He returned to Grand Rapids, yesterday, Thursday, and our family is overjoyed!

Continued monitoring will begin every month with bloodwork and every 3 months with a MRI.  Lumbar punctures will not be necessary as long as the molecular testing returns clean in a week. Additionally, he will continue to take a BTK inhibitor as a prevention against recurrence.  Lastly, Chris had genetic testing about a month ago.  Those results will be reviewed in due time.

We wish you a wonderful Easter celebrating our Risen King!

You may not want to read the remainder of this post if you do not want a slight spoiler to Season 5, The Last Supper Part Two…. I included the parts spoken in the Chosen; my edition is at the very end.

Usually spoken in community, the bold spoken by all. (Borrowed from: The Bible Artist)

The Traditional Dayenu

(as recited in The Chosen Season 5 Episode 4)

If He had brought us out of Egypt and not made judgments against our adversaries,

(it would have been enough).

If He had made judgments against our adversaries and had not destroyed their idols,

(it would have been enough).

If He had destroyed their idols and had not given us their wealth,

(it would have been enough).

If He had given us their wealth and had not split the Sea for us,

(it would have been enough).

If He had split the Sea for us and had not taken us through it on dry land,

(it would have been enough).

If He had taken us through it on dry land and not drowned our enemies,

(it would have been enough).

If He had drowned our enemies and had not supplied our needs in the desert for forty years,

(it would have been enough).

If He had supplied our needs in the desert and had not given us the Torah,

(it would have been enough).

If He had given us the Torah and had not brought us into the land of Israel,

(it would have been enough).

If He had brought us into the land of Israel and had not built us the Temple,

(it would have been enough).

The Jesus Dayenu

(from The Chosen Season 5 Episode 4)

Mother Mary: If I had only been given the joy of holding you in my arms and you had not performed signs and wonders,

(it would have been enough).

Mary Magdalene: If you had only performed signs and wonders and not called me by name,

(it would have been enough).

Eden: If you had only healed Mary of demons and not called my husband,

(it would have been enough).

Tamar: If you had only called Simon Peter and not healed my friend,

(it would have been enough).

Martha: If you had only healed Ethan and not raised my brother,

(it would have been enough).

Mary of Bethany: If you had only raised my brother and not defended my honor when I worshipped you,

(it would have been enough).

Joanna: If you had only defended Mary but not given meaning to my life that had been so unfulfilled by letting me support you and this miraculous family that I believe will change the world,

(it would have been enough).

Community Dayenu, The Bible Artist

Jesus, if you had left heaven and become human and not performed signs and wonders,

(it would have been enough).

If you had performed signs and wonders and not taught us the way of life,

(it would have been enough).

If you had taught us the way of life and had not suffered and died for our sins,

(it would have been enough).

If you had suffered and died for our sins, and had not risen again in the flesh,

(it would have been enough).

If you had risen again and had not sat at your Father’s right hand,

(it would have been enough).

If you had sat at your Father’s right hand, and had not sent your Spirit,

(it would have been enough).

If you had sent your Spirit and had not brought salvation to all the ends of the earth,

(it would have been enough).

My Dayenu – Rebecca Hirt

If you had brought salvation to all the ends of the earth and had not given me a loving family,

(it would have been enough).

If you had given me a loving family and had not called me to missions,

(it would have been enough).

If you had called me to missions and had not provided a way and means to go,

(it would have been enough).

If you had provided a way and means to go and had not given me a loving husband and three precious children,

(it would have been enough).

If you had given me a loving husband and three precious children and had not given us a long season of meaningful work and ministry,

(it would have been enough).

If you had given us a long season of meaningful work and ministry and had not rescued 2 year old Lucas from a locked room in the Korean Airport,

(it would have been enough).

If you had rescued Lucas from that locked bathroom and had not saved our family from a dangerous car incident in Thailand’s mountains,

(it would have been enough).

If you had saved our family from the dangerous car incident and had not enabled our family to return to Thailand during Covid,

(it would have been enough).

If you had enabled our family to return to Thailand during Covid and had not rescued Chris from a tragic truck accident while riding a bicycle,

(it would have been enough).

If you had rescued Chris from a tragic truck accident and had not healed Chris from lymphoma in 2023,

(it would have been enough).

If you had healed Chris from lymphoma in 2023 and had not provided for our needs time and time again over many home assignments,

(it would have been enough).

If you had provided for our needs time and time again for many home assignments and had not declared remission for Chris this week,

(it would have been enough).

But you have done all these things and more – more than all the books, blogs, and Youtube channels in the world could ever contain, because you are and always will be enough.
