Oh, we are feeling so thankful to the Lord for the past 24 hours and Chris’ steady and gradual improvement.
Yesterday evening was rough with nausea and one round of vomiting. The on call doctor suggested different medication (which number is this now, 10?!) and the Lord helped me figure out where I could get it at 9:30pm.
By Tuesday morning Chris had improved significantly and was ready to eat, got himself ready for the day, and was ready to go for our 7:45 appointment; yes I meant to repeat ready…. This was a very significant change from Monday and felt miraculous to me. I had to get ready fast to keep up with him!
Part of the shock for me was that his last pain meds were mid-afternoon on Monday and still now at 7pm on Tuesday, he has NO pain! I shouldn’t be shocked by God’s gift.
His platelet count was 47, the same as Monday (first day of chemo), so that was favorable.
We needed to return today to finish the chemo that he could not get yesterday. His chemo regime calls for benedryl to prevent side effects…that really helped him to sleep, and that pulled us through most of the morning. He had a brief reaction to the chemo, but it was short lived, so we could continue. The protocol is to actually stop chemo and treat the symptom before resuming. After that, he just cruised along with treatment and we finished sooner than expected. Our nurse was spot on when she said, “Well, Mr. Overachiever, you are done for today!” She has only known Chris since Monday morning and she already has him figured out!
Lord, your mercies are new every day, on chemo days and on beach days.
Lord, your love is never ending, so far beyond what we could hope and imagine.
Lord, your faithfulness extends beyond the most beautiful horizon, the most expansive sky.
Lam 3:22-23…my version of it
Chris will return tomorrow for a blood draw (we need to be really careful to monitor the platelets)
He will also get an ultrasound for his groin to rule out the small possibility of a blood clot.
Finally, he will get a special shot as part of his treatment that is focused on recovery and reducing the risk of infection through low white blood cell count.
Don’t worry the kids are having the time of their lives with all the family members who have been missing them! Thanks guys for standing in the gap for us at this time!

I am so thankful for our Lord’s blessings upon you and Chris. I was so worried about his weakened state. I love you all so much!
Well, isn’t our God some thing Wonderful!
This news is just what the doctor ordered for all of us who are receiving it so gratefully, and thanking the Lord so deeply.
To God, be the glory, great things he has done!
Isaiah 41:10
fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
What a wonderful report – Thank you Father for your intimate, intentional care for Chris, Becca, and family!
I love reading how God is meeting you each step with Himself…I’ll bet Jesus had a bit of a chuckle at the nurse’s response too!
We continue to lift you the Father day and night…we love you all!

Chris and Becca, how you’re dealing with all of this is one, wonderful testimony of trust in the Lord and of the love and devotion you share for one another!
I love when God says yes don’t you? My prayers will continue to be “Lord, please say yes”.
Amen amen. Way to go Chris. Praise God for this day of treatment and it’s visible effects. The human body truly is fearfully and wonderfully made. May you rest and recover in the Lord.
So glad to hear he’s feeling less pain! Continuing to pray for you on this journey.
Great to hear. Praying for another good nights sleep and no pain!
I loved seeing Chris’s smile…looks more like the Chris we are used to seeing. We continue to pray that the meds work quickly and he can feel comfortable along the way. Also praying for stamina for you, Becca.
Patty and I held on to this Alan Redpath quote deeply during ALS; “”There is nothing – no circumstance, no trouble, no testing – that can ever touch me until, first of all, it has gone past God and past Christ right through to me. If it has come that far, it has come with a great purpose, which I may not understand at the moment. But as I refuse to become panicky, as I lift up my eyes to Him and accept it as coming from the throne of God for some great purpose of blessing to my own heart, no sorrow will ever disturb me, no trial will ever disarm me, no circumstance will cause my to fret – for I shall rest in the joy of what my Lord is! – That is the rest of victory!” May you both find this to be true now.
Mike, I am so so grateful to God for the glow in your eyes! This is really very encouraging and we will continue to look up to God for complete healing.
Sorry I meant to type Chris’ name.
