Adventures

We boarded a plane today, we have done this many many times, and every time it has been for an adventure.

Some adventures we dream about, look forward to with anticipation, and prepare for months, maybe even years.  We may have feelings of triumph, peace, excitement or joy.  We have had many of these; we love these kinds of adventures and look forward to the next one.  North Manitou, Canada, Brazil, Ironman, parenthood, Thailand, Samoeng loop with children, snorkeling with young children, and Israel are just a handful we have savored together in our nearly 21 years of marriage.

Some adventures we don’t want, are surprised by, and look around and perhaps ask internally, “What just happened?” “Wait, I didn’t sign up for this one!”We have had some of those and you may have had some of these too.  Feelings of exhaustion, confusion, and grief come to mind.  Chris’ bike accident, challenges of returning to Thailand during Covid (2 week hotel quarantine), and unanticipated challenges as parents are just a few in our journey.  There is a common element of suffering in this type of adventure.

It appears we are on another one of these kinds of adventures as we try to understand Chris’ health and get help.

In both adventures God is with us.

In both adventures God has something for us to learn.

In both adventures God wants to use it to shape us more into his image.

In both adventures God wants us to use it for his glory.

Yes Lord, you are with us

Yes Lord, teach us

Yes Lord, shape us in your likeness

Yes Lord, use this too for your glory
