The Hirt Home Project

The following guest post is written by Nick Underwood.
Nick is a Calvin seminary graduate and small business owner.

To all those who know, love, and have a special interest in the Hirt family, God has impressed upon my heart to write this letter on their behalf!

As you know, Chris and Rebecca Hirt and their three children have been on a journey through Lymphoma for the past few years. First, with a successful treatment and remission, and then with a sudden and abrupt recurrence in Chris’s back that led to an immediate return from Thailand and an aggressive treatment schedule since. Yet in all of this they remain firm in their hope and trust in a God who is bigger than cancer! In the midst of uncertainty with Chris’s health, God provided an off-market home for Chris and Rebecca to purchase, providing a place of respite and refuge for the family during this challenging season. Their kids now have a place to call home here in the States while Chris is in the fight of his life.

You are part of a group that has been faithful in prayer and in support of the Hirt family, and it is for those same things that I am reaching out to you now.

First, I would ask that you continue to lift up the Hirt family in prayer for complete healing for Chris and a supernatural peace for Becca and the kids as they trust the Lord together during this tough time. We serve a God that is mighty to save!  Chris has now started his “40 days in the wilderness” where he is in Chicago for treatment, apart from his family.  Would you join me in praying Chris and Becca and their kids through these next 40 days?

Second, I ask that you would again pray and ask God if He would have you join my wife, Katie and me in the Hirt Home Project. This project is an effort to alleviate as much of the debt-load of their new home as possible. Having been wise stewards of God’s money, the Hirts have never carried any financial debt—nor have they ever owned their own house!

The Hirts plan to stay in this home in West Michigan for the foreseeable future. The children will continue attending nearby NorthPointe Christian School and establish roots here, as the Lord leads. Some day, the family hopes to return to the mission field after Chris is healed, at which time they hope to also have significantly reduced their mortgage. Their plan, Lord willing, is to keep this home as a base for their family in the future, providing stability for the children.

Would you prayerfully consider how God may be directing you to participate in the Hirt Home Project?

If you’re ready to learn more about the Hirt Home Project, which runs through April 30th, follow this link.

By the way, the Hirts will be made aware of the total gift amount and of the names of individual donors, but they will not be informed about individual donation amounts. Funds will go directly to the bank to reduce their mortgage debt. If you have any questions about this or know others who may like to be involved, please feel free to reach out to me and I’ll gladly chat with you about this amazing family and opportunity!

  1. Thank you for spearheading this effort. Chris and I will pray about it and are possible involvement. We continue to trust the Lord for their every need: emotional, physical, material. We thank him for you and your family.
I always go to his word, and when it tells us that he will supply our needs according to his riches in glory, that is truth that our lives can depend upon.

  2. Nick,
Thank you for coming alongside the Hirt family in this way.
I pray our precious Lord will guide those who wish to support them in this way.
You are true friend and a blessing.
As a family member I am so very thankful, grateful and blessed by you.
May Gods mighty provision be shown through this.
    God Bless you and Katie
    Dawn Seeley (Becca’s aunt)

  3. Thank you for your update on the Hirt family. What a generous offer and gift to Chris and Becca to set up the ‘Hirt Home Project’ to help them in paying and reducing the mortgage on their new home. My prayers for the Hirt family continue and also for you, Nick and Katie in spear heading this project. May God open our hearts to give generously and continue to
support Chris and Becca with prayer.
