Time to rally the troops

Military images come easy to me.  While I was not a military brat it has been part of my family history.  Plus I have two sons, one especially interested in all things military…and that son just turned 16 this week!

I know many of you have been praying for us along this journey, and we want to reinvite you to pray again with fervor for our family and especially for Chris’s health.  

Even though Chris had good numbers for his blood work on July 1, and again this week, our oncologist here has ordered more tests due to his pain levels. So we will head back to the hospital for a 3rd time this week.  Tomorrow, Friday, (1am EST) he will have a bone marrow aspiration/biopsy and possibly a CT/PET.   

Pray with us that the doctor will have an appointment opening on Friday so that we can meet with her and discuss any results that may have come, especially the spinal tap.

Pray for the procedures on Friday, that they will go well.  The last time he had the bone marrow aspiration/biopsy the doctor said it was difficult because he had “sticky” bones…I won’t elaborate more in an effort to keep you, the reader, comfortable.

We thank God that Chris had a good night of sleep this past night.  It was the first night he slept through the night in a bed in a week (he has been sleeping in a recliner).

We thank God Chris had a good day of meetings at work despite discomfort. The Lord has opened a door for Chris to use his leadership skills to help foster a collaboration between a like minded organization in Thailand, the Foundation of Applied Linguistics to utilize SIL software for their needs.  The troops were rallied today to launch this new initiative, thanks be to God.

    So many of us love you and are so grateful for your work on our behalf. But the Lord loves you so much more.

  2. Jesus we lift up Chris, Rebecca and the family and are thankful that your steadfast love never ceases and your mercies never come to an end. We pray for more mercy and healing be poured out on Chris’s body and your presence for all near and far to know and see your glory. Amen

  3. Ira and I have been praying for you this morning. It must be terribly disappointing to go through all this again! I have been listening and reading the story over and over of the man born blind who Jesus healed. The disciples asked why this happened to him, did he or his parents sin? And Jesus says, no, this happened so the power of God would be displayed in him. John 9. And that is what I am praying for Chris. Love to you and a big happy birthday to Luis. Next month Emily will turn 17!

    Praying the tests go well and the doctor gives you all the information you need. And the pain abates.

  9. Thanks for the updates. I will pray that the tests go well, with minimal pain, and that the appointment slot opens up. I also hope you will start to get some answers as to what is causing Chris’s pain. Thinking about you, and praying for you all as you walk this journey as a family.

  11. God, in your mercy be near Chris, Becca, Luis, Lucas and Emalene in this very uncertain time. May they know your peace and feel your presence. Please provide kind, wise and thoughtful medical people to care for them. Amen.

  12. May God, who is the Lord of a great host of an army with almost innumerable angels, give you all the weapons necessary to fight discouragement and defend against physical pain. We don’t trust in chariots and medicines, we trust in God who provides & can heal & gives wisdom to doctors. Together with you we strap on the armor of God, “that you may be able to withstand the devil’s wily ways” (Eph 6:11) and attempts to break you and make you turn away from and curse God. We secure our understanding of truth that strengthens us (Eph 6:14) (possibly gird up with a jockstrap that protects vulnerabilities?!). We remember the truth that God is with you, is sovereign over all, and has a plan for your good & His glory. And together with you we strap on and tighten our protective foot gear- the gospel of peace (Eph 6:15) so we can tread difficult ground without fear. It gives us peace that God has redeemed us from our sins and hell forever and can redeem this situation for good. I pray for the gift of sleep too! Consider the troops rallied as we renew our fervent praying as offensive and defensive strategies- Let’s roll!

  13. I’m very proud of all of you. Lord, grant Chris healing and if it’s your will help him to endure in order for you to be glorified. In All Things Lord, I pray you will be glorified.

    I, as your servant ask for his healing though so that he can continue at his best as your servant.
