Please intercede with us right now for Chris and Becca Hirt, along with Luis, Lucas and Emalene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chris began feeling quite poorly a few weeks ago, and things continued to decline for his health. Initial tests have unfortunately indicated something much more serious than a flu bug. Since Wednesday, he has been undergoing a rapid series of extensive tests to determine what exactly is going on. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chris and Becca will be flying to Bangkok for the day on Monday to have a CT PET scan that is not available in Chiang Mai; they will then be able to meet with local doctors on Tuesday, 11:30am Thailand time, to get summarized results of all those tests and hopefully determine the next steps. One of the medical professionals among our colleagues will be able to accompany them to help process and navigate that appointment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Hirts are also connected with other qualified medical professionals in the US who are helping them make sense of the information they have and will receive. There are several medical professionals among our colleagues who can help them navigate the medical world, and many others who are stepping in to provide practical support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are some very specific ways you can be praying for the Hirts in the next several days:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
1. Pray for God’s miraculous and direct intervention<\/strong> in Chris’s body, to restore him to complete health. <\/p>\n\n\n\n 2. Ask God for definitive test results and engaged, competent and available doctors<\/strong> to work through diagnosis and treatment options with Chris and Becca. Pray that the current symptoms Chris is experiencing will be managed well as they wait.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 3. Pray for strength and peace for Chris and Becca<\/strong>. They are concerned and overwhelmed right now. Pray that in the struggle, they would turn to each other and to our Heavenly Father for comfort and encouragement. Pray that they would have the ability in the middle of this hard situation to trust His care for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 4. Pray for wisdom and clarity<\/strong> – The Hirts are supposed to be returning to the US for the summer in just a few weeks, and it’s unclear whether that trip should happen or not. This will depend on treatment plans and timelines, and whether needed treatments are available in Thailand (it is highly likely that good treatment could be quickly obtained in Thailand). Another factor in the decision is the needs of the family, both for practical support and schooling plans (if they return to the US). Pray that they would know clearly whether to stay or go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 5. Pray for Luis, Lucas and Emalene<\/strong>. At present they know only that Chris is sick and is undergoing tests to help determine the cause. Chris and Becca will share with the kids once they have a diagnosis. Please pray that any fears the kids are experiencing would be replaced by peace, and that Chris, Becca and the other adults around them would appropriately safeguard and share information in a way that will lead them away from fear and toward confidence in our Great Physician.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Because Chris and Becca need to focus their time and emotional energy on their family and the medical process right now, they have designated Sondra Armstrong, friend and leader in their work, as their contact person. She will pass the encouragement and prayers along to the Hirts, and will answer questions on their behalf and share updates as they become available.
