It felt like we were on a West Michigan Safari on a drive home from school last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Mom, what is that?!\u00a0 Mom! Mom! What is that over there?!” Emalene loudly exclaimed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Oh, it’s a gopher!” I said straining my neck at a traffic light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Ooooooooooooo”, she said with curiosity and amazement\u2026just like someone might on a Kenyan safari.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At times, normal is so abnormal to our kids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pants are abnormal.\u00a0 Our kids wear pants on airplanes and when we are camping high in the mountains, otherwise it’s shorts all the time because it is rarely below 60 degrees where we live.\u00a0 Therefore they do not like pants, are not used to pants, and have a hard time knowing the difference between pants and pajamas\u2026. Pants are abnormal.\u00a0 \u201cI have to wear pants AND a coat?!\u201d Yes son, I am a cruel parent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Snow. Snow is abnormal to our kids and so they are waiting with high anticipation.\u00a0 The other day they were having a conversation in the car, talking about their assumption that the neighbor kids will want, and may even steal, the snow on our grass.\u00a0 They are concerned that the neighbors will actually come into our yard and take our snow with shovels.\u00a0 (You see, that is what THEY want to do, so they are assuming the other kids want to do that too.)\u00a0 I informed them that it is highly unlikely to happen.\u00a0 Snow is abnormal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Conversely, some of our normal may appear abnormal to others. Emalene’s class was reading a text that included the guava fruit. Out of excitement she shared all her knowledge. Later that week she brought in a Thai guava to share with her class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today, Oct 16, has become a new normal for us. Chris had another PET scan this morning. This scan is a routine scan after all 6 rounds of chemo. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
We meet next Monday, Oct 23rd, for a follow up with our medical team.\u00a0 This test result, as well as the consultation next week, will provide some guidance on our next steps.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Lord holds our normal and abnormal, he knows them both and is not surprised by either!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
